Chelsea's first match under Liam Rosenior got off to a great start, as they put on a dominant display to beat Charlton 5-1, including a stunning volley for Jorrel Hato, getting his first goal in some style.

After a resolute display of defending from Charlton for most of the first half, it was eventually breached by a superb volley from Hato. The Blues would then run riot in the second half, with goals from Tosin, Marc Guiu, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez, and it also included a Charlton goal for former Chelsea academy player Miles Leaburn.

Chelsea travel to the Valley trying to stop a bad run of form, where they are now winless in 5, dropping down to 8th in the Premier League, and to get new manager Liam Rosenior of to the perfect start.

Championship Charlton aren't on the best run of form themselves, winless in 4 (although one of those was a draw with frontrunners Coventry City, managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard), which sees the Addicks only 5 points from the relegation spots in 19th

Liam Rosenior carries on the wholesale changes for the Blues in the cup competitions, 8 in all, one of which is Facundo Buonanotte, who's appearances in a Chelsea shirt have been few and far between since joining on loan from Brighton.

There is a welcome return on the bench for Dario Essugo, who'll be looking for his first appearance since the preseason win against AC Milan.

Charlton have made 4 changes from the Blackburn game, including a change in goal, with Will Mannion picked over former Luton keeper Thomas Kaminski

The first yellow of the game went to Benoît Badiashile, who pulled down Miles Leaburn, but the resulting free kick resulted to nothing.

Jamie Gittens cross almost gave Chelsea their first chance at goal when Marc Guiu got to the ball fractionally before Mannion, but the Spanish striker couldn't get the ball high enough to get to safety.

The game then had to be momentarily stopped so the medical team could aid to a medical emergency in the crowd.

Mannion had more of a test when an Andrey Santos cross met the head of Jorrel Hato, but his looping header found the hands of the Charlton keeper.

Chelsea were in control from this point onwards, but didn't have many chances to show from it, with only a Tosin long range shot to show for some extended build up play.

Jamie Gittens has only one goal for the Blues before this game, and he couldn't add to it after curling a chance high and wide.

The Chelsea back line were having a fair few long range efforts, this time young defender Josh Acheampong having a dig, which Mannion got two hands on.

Gittens had another chance in the first of seven added minutes, but again Mannion got to it.

Chelsea would go in front in some style in the fourth minute of added time, with a Charlton clearance bouncing to Jorrel Hato, who hammered it into the top corner to give the Blues a deserved lead, and gave Rosenior his first goal as manager.

Charlton started the second half as quick as they started the first, which culminated in one of Tosin's clearance flying over the bar.

Chelsea then immediately went up the other end but Buonanottes shot was blocked, amidst some brief but not solid shouts for a penalty.

Chelsea would get their second early on, when Gittens won a free kick which Buonanotte took, and it found the head of Tosin, who was completely unmarked at the front post to divert in.

The chances were coming thick and fast now, with Lloyd Jones heading wide for Charlton before Alejandro Garnacho bending an effort fractionally wide.

After a miskick from Kelman and a miss from Bree, Leaburn got to a second ball from a corner following a save from Filip Jörgensen to give the Addicks hope of a revival.

Now Chelsea had to potentially find a third just to calm some nerves, and they would not have to wait long with a goal from Guiu, but it's a goal Mannion probably won't rewatch, kicking a Buonanotte shot straight into the path of the young Spanish striker.

It was a third that would have calmed a couple of nerves and worries about another FA Cup upset, as we already had the biggest shock of the FA Cup when Macclesfield beat holders Crystal Palace in the early kick-offs, and Nottingham Forest getting elimated by Hollywood-owned Wrexham on penalties the day before.

Enzo Fernandez came on for Argentinian compatriot Buonanotte, and he almost scored from what might have been his first touch, after a blocked Estevao shot rolled his direction, but the effort was well saved.

Fernandez then turned provider for Estevao, going hard and high but Mannion again got his hands on it.

Delap had a golden opportunity to make it four, but could only divert his shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.

Mannion was a busy man in the closing stages, first from Estevao and then an audacious lobbed effort from Fernandez which had the keeper leaning to palm over.

As the fog descended on The Valley, Jörgensen had a bit of outfield work to do, which he dealt with well, and then did well to get back to a shot from a misplaced pass.

Then Charlton had what seemed a solid penalty shout, although the replay showed that Jones may have actually kicked the floor instead of being tackled.

Pedro Neto got the fourth, cutting inside and hitting it hard and low before Mannion could react.

Estevao then got a penalty through Estevao, which Enzo Fernandez thundered home to finish the job, in what was the final kick of the game.

The game was a much needed win for the Blues, and a comfortable and dominant one at that. Their next match is the first of two legs against rivals Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, whereas Charlton's next match is against Sheffield United.
